Mets’ Jose Siri Headed to IL After Breaking His Leg
Tough break—literally—for Mets outfielder Jose Siri. He fractured his tibia over the weekend and is expected to land on the injured list soon. The team hasn’t made it official just yet, but manager Carlos Mendoza said they’ll likely announce it after Tuesday’s game against the Twins.
Part of the delay is also due to pitcher Griffin Canning feeling under the weather, so the Mets are juggling a few roster decisions at once. Mendoza hinted they might shift the pitching schedule around, possibly making a move as early as Wednesday.
Siri got hurt on Saturday after fouling a ball off his leg during his very first at-bat in a game the Mets ended up losing 3-1 to the A’s. At first, X-rays didn’t show much, but an MRI on Monday confirmed the fracture.
“It sucks, but I’m not going to overthink it,” Siri said through an interpreter. “Hopefully I bounce back quick—I usually do.”
The Mets picked up Siri from Tampa Bay last November, but he’s been having a rough start at the plate this season—just one hit in 20 at-bats, and none in his last 16 tries.
