A Big Day at Ford Field
The Detroit Lions gave fans a show to remember on Sunday, September 14, as they trampled the Chicago Bears 52-21 at Ford Field. The offense clicked, the defense made big plays, and the energy in the building was electric. For Lions fans, it was one of those games where everything seemed to go right.
Dan Campbell’s squad looked every bit like a team chasing another playoff run, and the win gave them momentum heading into Week 3. But, like Campbell himself said, this group isn’t letting a blowout win go to their heads—especially with the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson waiting for them on Monday Night Football.
The Injury Cloud Over the Celebration
Even with the high-scoring victory, the Lions didn’t walk away unscathed. Defensive end Marcus Davenport went down with a shoulder injury in the third quarter, right after delivering a sack on Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.
To make matters worse, Davenport had already been dealing with an ankle issue earlier in the game. If his shoulder injury turns out to be serious, the Lions’ already thin edge rotation could be stretched dangerously thin.
The good news? Aidan Hutchinson gave fans a sigh of relief after appearing banged up late in the game. Campbell said Hutch was “a little sore but he’s alright.” Hutchinson himself added after recording a sack, “I was very happy to get one. I felt the support from Ford Field. It was really one of those moments that you’re like, ‘I’m back.’”
What’s Next for Detroit
The Lions don’t have much time to celebrate. Next Monday, they’ll face a tough road test against the Ravens in Baltimore. Oddsmakers already have Detroit pegged as an underdog, and if Davenport is sidelined, Campbell’s defense will have an even bigger challenge containing Jackson.
But make no mistake—the Lions are still riding high. Their dominant win over Chicago reminded the league that this team is no fluke, and if the injury bug doesn’t bite too hard, they’ll be ready to prove it again on the national stage.
