$30 Million Veteran Could Be Key to Lions’ Defensive Line Makeover

Lions Predicted to Sign $30 Million Veteran to Stabilize Defensive Line

The Detroit Lions are facing a crucial offseason as they look to solidify their defensive line, particularly at defensive tackle, with several uncertainties looming. Alim McNeil is recovering from a torn ACL, and his return timeline remains unclear. Meanwhile, Levi Onwuzurike is expected to hit the free agent market, and D.J. Reader has been mentioned as a potential cap casualty for the team.

In light of these challenges, the Lions may turn to the free agent market for help. According to Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, Detroit could look to sign Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle B.J. Hill. Despite the Bengals’ rough 2024 season, Hill stood out as a reliable force on the defensive line, contributing significantly against both the run and pass.

In 2024, Hill recorded 56 total tackles, including a career-high seven tackles for loss. He also tallied 32 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus, making him an attractive option for the Lions. His versatility could provide an immediate boost to a Detroit defense in need of help in both the pass rush and run defense.

Though not a marquee name, Hill would bring much-needed stability to the Lions’ defensive tackle rotation, which is in flux heading into the 2025 season. If the Lions are looking to add solid depth without breaking the bank, Hill could be a valuable, cost-effective addition to their defensive line.
