$31M Man on the Chopping Block? Giants Might Say Bye Soon

Giants Might Be Ready to Move On From $31M Pass Rusher — Here’s Why

The New York Giants are staring down a make-or-break season after last year’s disaster of a 3-14 run. Head coach Brian Daboll somehow kept his job — and he knows this is likely his last shot to turn things around.

So what’s he doing? Tweaking everything, especially at QB. But that’s not the only position under the microscope. One big name that keeps popping up in trade rumors? Kayvon Thibodeaux, their 2022 first-round pick and $31 million pass rusher.

Bleacher Report just dropped a list of NFL players who could get shipped out before the season starts in September, and guess what? Thibodeaux’s on it. NFL writer Kristopher Knox says he could land with the Packers or Patriots if the Giants decide to move him.

Why the speculation? Thibodeaux hasn’t exactly lit the league on fire the way fans hoped. He’s shown flashes, but not enough to lock in his spot — especially now that the Giants brought in Brian Burns and spent the No. 3 overall pick on pass-rusher Abdul Carter.

In other words, the edge room is stacked, and Thibodeaux could suddenly find himself third in the pecking order. And for a guy set to carry a $14.8 million cap hit in 2026, that’s a tough sell. Trading him now would wipe that hit clean off the books — and let’s be real, that might be too tempting for the front office to ignore.

Thibodeaux’s still talking big, though. At minicamp, he said: “I think I’m a consistent double-digit sack guy and I’ve got to do that.” But if he wants the numbers to back that up, he might need a new team to get the chance.

Meanwhile, on the offensive side, new QB Russell Wilson is loving life in New York. He’s hyped about rookie wideout Malik Nabers, saying at Fanatics Fest, “I came here because of him.” He also dropped some classic Russ optimism: “We’ve got a lot of dudes. That’s a good thing.”

So yeah — the Giants are still a work in progress. But don’t be surprised if a major name like Thibodeaux is out the door before Week 1.
