Lions Eyeing Charvarius Ward as Potential Free Agent Target
With several key players set to hit the free-agent market, the Detroit Lions are looking to strengthen their defense. One player they might pursue is veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward of the San Francisco 49ers. Ward, a second-team All-Pro in 2023, has been a standout in the past with 5 interceptions and a league-leading 23 pass defenses.
Despite a down year in 2024, where he didn’t record any interceptions, Ward’s physicality and experience would bring a much-needed toughness to the Lions’ secondary, something that could be appealing to head coach Dan Campbell. Detroit’s defensive coordinator, Kelvin Sheppard, might also be interested in adding Ward to pair with second-year cornerback Terrion Arnold, especially if Carlton Davis leaves in free agency.
Ward is projected to secure a lucrative contract, which could make him a significant addition to Detroit’s defense if they choose to pursue him.
