Jared Goff reached a unique milestone on Sunday, playing his 69th game as a Detroit Lion — the same total he logged with the Los Angeles Rams. For Goff, that balance now leaves no doubt about which franchise will define his career.
The quarterback admitted he hadn’t realized the numbers lined up so perfectly until reporters mentioned it after the game. Once it sank in, he saw it as more than just trivia — it marked a turning point.
“I heard that when I did my radio thing earlier this week, I was like, Wow, that’s cool,” Goff said. “I’ve certainly become a Lion now in my career, when I look back on it, it’s going to be majority Lions. Hopefully a lot more majority as we go on. It’s been a fun journey here, it’s been fun to grow into, be a part of this city, and to flip that way is cool.”
At 30 years old, Goff says he still sees plenty of football in front of him.
“Hopefully a long time. I don’t know, it’s hard to answer, but I think a long time,” Goff said when asked about his future in Detroit.
The veteran is under contract through 2028, though the deal gets complicated next year when his cap hit jumps to $69.6 million. That figure makes it very possible that Goff and the Lions will negotiate a restructuring in 2026 to reduce the number while extending his stay even further. Regardless, with his trajectory and commitment, Goff looks poised to add far more than 69 additional games in a Lions uniform.
