“$77 Million and Not Worth It? Packers Might’ve Missed Big Time”

💰 Packers’ $77 Million Gamble? This Free Agent Might Be a Bust Already

The Packers spent big this offseason, and one of their flashiest moves was locking down guard Aaron Banks for a jaw-dropping $77 million over four years. But not everyone’s sold on the investment — and some are already calling it a major mistake.

Green Bay’s GM Brian Gutekunst was clearly in go-for-it mode, adding players on both sides of the ball. He beefed up the defense in the draft and picked up corner Nate Hobbs (4 years, $48M) in free agency. On offense, Banks was supposed to bring stability to an already decent O-line that ranked sixth in the league last season.

But here’s the catch: Aaron Banks has never really been elite. He’s a solid, middle-of-the-pack lineman. And at 28, he might not have much more room to grow. Packers fans were hoping for a Pro Bowl-level bodyguard for Jordan Love — not just “good enough.”

To make things messier, shifting Elgton Jenkins to center (to make room for Banks) is creating contract drama. Jenkins could use that position switch as leverage to get paid even more. So now, the team might be stuck overpaying two linemen if Banks doesn’t step up.

Banks has experience — over 40 starts and a Super Bowl appearance with the 49ers — but his tape screams “average.” And that’s not what you want from your highest-paid offensive lineman.

Still, if there’s a silver lining, it’s this: the Packers have a solid track record of turning decent linemen into stars. So maybe, just maybe, Banks levels up in Green Bay. But if he doesn’t? This $77 million bet could blow up fast.
