Departing Seahawks Star: Several Trade Demands Led to His Exit

The Seattle Seahawks are going to look pretty different in 2025 under new head coach Mike Macdonald. Not only did they trade quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders and bring in Sam Darnold, but they also made big changes to the receiving lineup. Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf are out, while Davante Adams is in and there could be more changes coming soon. But one of those star players who left, DK Metcalf, had actually been trying to get traded away from Seattle for a while.

Metcalf, who slipped to the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, has had an impressive career so far with over 900-yard seasons and two Pro Bowl appearances. But in March, the Seahawks traded him to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a second-round pick and signed him to a four-year, $132 million deal.

What’s surprising is that this wasn’t the first time Metcalf had asked for a trade. According to ESPN’s Brady Henderson, Metcalf had been requesting a trade for several offseasons. The Seahawks didn’t originally plan on trading him, but with his ongoing unhappiness and the risk of signing him to a huge third contract, they decided to move him to Pittsburgh.

After the trade, Metcalf signed an extension with the Steelers, and we might see him even more motivated on the field.

It looks like the Seahawks decided to make the move after considering all the factors surrounding Metcalf’s situation.
