Jahmyr Gibbs played a crucial role in the Detroit Lions’ impressive 15-2 season last year, and when the reigning NFC North champions return to Ford Field this September, he’ll be sporting a brand-new look.
On Thursday, the Lions announced several jersey number changes for the 2025 season, with Gibbs making one of the most eye-catching switches—he’s trading in his No. 26 for No. 0. The dynamic running back, who made a name for himself at Alabama before being drafted by Detroit, will now blaze past defenders in one of the league’s more unique jersey numbers.
He’s not the only former Alabama player on the Lions making a switch. Wide receiver Jameson Williams will now wear No. 1, while cornerback Terrion Arnold has opted for No. 6.
Since entering the NFL, Gibbs has silenced any doubts about the Lions selecting him in the first round of the 2023 draft. In just two seasons, he’s already earned two Pro Bowl nods and delivered a breakout 2024 campaign, racking up 1,412 rushing yards and leading the league with 16 rushing touchdowns.
The NFL officially approved the use of No. 0 in 2023, overturning a 50-year ban on the digit. That change paved the way for players like D’Andre Swift, who briefly wore No. 0 with the Philadelphia Eagles, and Roquan Smith of the Baltimore Ravens.
Before his professional career, Gibbs was no stranger to standout jersey numbers—he wore No. 1 throughout his college years at Georgia Tech and Alabama. Now, as he embraces a fresh look, fans can expect him to bring the same explosiveness to the field in 2025.
