Alabama’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb is fired up about the running backs on the roster for 2025. He’s got a solid group to work with—Jam Miller is back after putting up 668 rushing yards and six touchdowns last season. Then there’s Richard Young, who had 146 yards and two scores, and new transfer Dre Washington, who ran for 478 yards and five touchdowns at Louisiana in 2024.
On top of that, there are younger guys like Daniel Hill, Kevin Riley, and AK Dear, each bringing different skill sets. Grubb loves the variety in the group and sees that as a big plus.
He mentioned that last year, injuries were a big issue, but now that the guys are healthier, he’s excited to see them go full throttle. Grubb likes backs who can do more than just run—they need to block, catch, and be all-around playmakers, just like some of Alabama’s past greats (think Najee Harris).
For Grubb, Alabama is the place for running backs. He pointed out the murals at the facility—half of them honor star Bama RBs. He’s looking to see who steps up as a complete back and who might need help from others in specific roles.
Grubb also talked about keeping the run game diverse—inside and outside zones, power, counters, sweeps—you name it. His goal? A tough, physical run game that can show up when it matters most, especially late in the season and in the playoffs.
Bottom line: Grubb sees a lot of potential and can’t wait to see who rises to the challenge.
