Alabama and Georgia have had plenty of high-profile recruiting battles over the years. Nick Saban and Kirby Smart would go toe-to-toe for the nation’s top prospects year after year once Smart left Alabama to be the Bulldogs’ head coach. Things haven’t changed much with Kalen DeBoer taking over for a retired Saban. The Tide and Bulldogs still have plenty of overlap for the recruits they covet the most.

One of those recruits is 4-star Edge rusher Khamari Brooks from Bogart, Georgia. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Brooks is the No. 117 overall prospect currently in the 247 composite rankings.

Brooks’ offer list is extensive and while his top four consists of Texas and USC to go along with Alabama and Georgia, he recently told On3 that his focus is squarely on the Tide and Bulldogs at this point:

Brooks helped his high school, North Oconee, to the State Championship last season and a perfect 15-0 season where he was named MVP. It’s never easy to pull recruits out of the state of Georgia, particularly those who are made a priority by Smart and his staff, but Alabama has had plenty of success in the Peach State.

Kalen DeBoer has had success recruiting in the state of Georgia

Alabama recently landed a commitment from the No. 2 player in the state of Georgia, 5-star CB Jorden Edmonds. Alabama also holds a commitment from 4-star lineman Chris Booker out of Atlanta in the 2026 class.

In the 2025 class, DeBoer and company signed 4-stars Duke Johnson (LB), Marshall Pritchett (TE), and Luke Metz (LB).

Under Saban, Alabama signed the No. 1 (Caleb Downs) and No. 3 (Justice Haynes) players in the state of Georgia in 2023. Saban also signed the No. 1 player out of the state of Georgia in 2020 in Will Anderson. Other notable Tide players from the Bulldogs’ backyard over the years includes Xavier McKinney, Brian Branch, Kenyan Drake, and Chance Warmack. That doesn’t count players like Jahmyr Gibbs who the Tide didn’t land in recruiting, but signed out of the Transfer Portal later on.

DeBoer will look to continue that success and landing a commitment from Brooks would be further proof of that.
