Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is making a meaningful change this season. He’s switching his jersey number from 0 to 6 in honor of his late friend and former Alabama teammate, Khyree Jackson.
Arnold and Jackson played together at Alabama from 2021 to 2022, where Jackson wore No. 6. Arnold explained his reason for the change in a TikTok post, saying, “I wanted my brother to live through me,” along with a photo of Jackson.
After his time at Alabama, Jackson transferred to Oregon, hoping to get more playing time. He impressed enough to get drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2023. Sadly, he passed away in a car accident just a few months later, before he could suit up in the NFL.
The Vikings have kept his memory alive in several ways, including inviting his family to games. Arnold, now a first-round pick for Detroit, and Jackson were set to face each other twice a year in the NFC North—a matchup that never got to happen.
In a related move, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs will now be wearing Arnold’s old number, 0.
