Rodgers-Steelers Deal Imminent? Vikings Exit Clears Path for Agreement

Veteran QB’s Decision Could Come Just Days Before NFL Draft

The Waiting Game May Be Ending

Aaron Rodgers’ free agency saga has kept the NFL world on edge, but the pieces are finally falling into place—and it looks like Pittsburgh may be where the quarterback lands.

After a rocky two-year run with the New York Jets, Rodgers entered free agency for the first time in his career. He didn’t rush. Instead, he watched the market settle, evaluating his options while teams scrambled to find their 2025 starters.

But now, only one suitor remains.

Vikings Reportedly Out of the Picture

For weeks, the Minnesota Vikings appeared to be a legitimate contender for Rodgers’ next chapter. They needed a proven veteran. Rodgers reportedly preferred them. And with two teams in the running, he had leverage.

That changed on Monday.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, said, “I would say the Vikings are as out as they could be right now on Aaron Rodgers. I’d be very surprised if he waited until after the draft, and it wasn’t the Steelers.”

That one quote shifted the narrative. With Minnesota out, Pittsburgh is now the only team left seriously in the hunt.

Steelers Leaning In—With Conditions

Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz added fuel to the fire with an update that suggested momentum is building. According to Schultz, Rodgers and the Steelers are aligned on contract terms—likely around $30 million per year. That’s a major signal that money is no longer the holdup.

Timing, however, is.

Sources say the Steelers want Rodgers to make a decision before the NFL Draft. If not, the team could pivot and draft a quarterback. That puts real pressure on Rodgers to commit.

Even Steelers owner Art Rooney is reportedly expecting the deal to happen. Rodgers hasn’t met with any other team, and he’s already thrown with new Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf. The interest is clearly mutual.

A Future Hinges on One Decision

For Pittsburgh, Rodgers is more than a short-term solution. He’s a chance to stabilize a position that has been in flux since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement. For Rodgers, the Steelers offer a strong defense, emerging talent on offense, and a proud franchise looking for one last push.

But at 41 years old, the biggest question might not be where Rodgers plays—but if he plays at all.

Draft Deadline Looms

The clock is ticking. With the NFL Draft just days away, the Steelers will need clarity soon. If Rodgers doesn’t commit, the team has to plan for the future. If he does, they might just become a real threat in the AFC.

All signs point toward Pittsburgh.

Now it’s up to Rodgers.
