Vikings Say Goodbye to Nahshon Wright, the Booth Trade Add-On

Vikings Cut CB Nahshon Wright, Ending Short Stint After Trade

The Minnesota Vikings have released cornerback Nahshon Wright, who they picked up from the Cowboys in a trade for Andrew Booth Jr. last August. Wright didn’t make the active roster last season but spent the year on the practice squad and even signed a futures deal in January. Now, he’s back on the market.

Wright, a former third-round pick by Dallas in 2021, never really found his footing in the NFL. He averaged less than 100 defensive snaps per season over his first three years and mostly contributed on special teams. At 6’4″ and 200 pounds, he’s got the size teams like at corner, so he might get another shot somewhere else.

As for the trade itself    neither side really won. Booth, who the Vikings originally took in the second round in 2022, also struggled with the Cowboys. He played a little over 100 snaps last season and graded out near the bottom of the league. He’s still on Dallas’ roster but hasn’t lived up to his potential.

The move doesn’t affect Minnesota’s salary cap much, since it’s early in the offseason and Wright wasn’t counting toward the top 51 contracts. The team still has ten cornerbacks on the roster, so they’ve got depth. Cutting Wright now might give him a better chance to catch on with another squad before OTAs and the draft.
