The New Orleans Saints didn’t have the best time in 2024. They wrapped up the season 5-12 and missed the playoffs again for the fourth straight year. But Cameron Jordan isn’t letting that kill his vibe heading into 2025.
The longtime Saints defensive end still thinks they’ve got what it takes to win the NFC South, despite the Tampa Bay Buccaneers running the show recently.
“Let’s be real,” Jordan said. “The Bucs have taken the division the last few years, but it’s not like they’re dominating. They went 10-7 last year, 9-8 the year before, and 8-9 before that. That’s not unbeatable.”
And he’s not wrong. The Saints actually tied the Bucs record-wise in 2023, but Tampa edged them out with a tiebreaker. Before the Bucs’ run, New Orleans ruled the division from 2017 to 2020.
Jordan, who’s entering his 15th NFL season, is eager to get back to the playoffs. He’s been there six times with the Saints, and while he wasn’t part of the 2009 Super Bowl squad, he knows what it takes to contend.
Injuries hit the Saints hard last year starting QB Derek Carr, along with receivers Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave, all went down. That forced the team to roll with Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener under center, which didn’t go so well.
Carr is back for 2025 after restructuring his deal, and while there’s been some talk about New Orleans drafting a quarterback like Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart, Jordan doesn’t think that’s happening. He’s focused on winning now, not developing rookies.
And he’s also got his eyes on a personal milestone sack numbers. He’s sitting at 121.5 and said he’s pushing for 130. “I always thought 125 would feel right, but now that I’m close, I’m aiming higher,” he said.
Bottom line? Jordan thinks the Saints are still in the mix, and he’s not ready to count them out just yet.
