Former Chicago Bear DeMarcus Walker Visits Lions as Potential Defensive Addition

Lions Kick Tires on Former Bears Edge DeMarcus Walker, But He May Not Be the Answer

The Detroit Lions are still hunting for help on the edge, and one of their latest moves was meeting with veteran pass rusher DeMarcus Walker. The 29-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears and is now one of the few experienced options left in free agency.

Walker posted 3.5 sacks in each of the past two seasons and has never tallied more than five in a single year. While Pro Football Focus credited him with 39 pressures in 2024 — a decent figure — the lack of sack production leaves plenty of doubt about whether he’s the answer in Detroit.

With Marcus Davenport already on the roster as a high-ceiling, injury-prone option, adding another inconsistent vet like Walker feels like a stopgap at best. Unless the Lions are planning to use Walker in a limited rotational role behind Aidan Hutchinson, they’re still facing serious pressure to find a more reliable presence on the edge — whether in the draft or via trade.
