The Detroit Lions didn’t just lose a heartbreaking playoff game — they also took a major hit to their coaching staff, parting ways with both coordinators this offseason. That kind of turnover can be tough for any franchise to bounce back from. Still, head coach Dan Campbell isn’t starting from scratch. With one of the most talented rosters in the league, the Lions are in position to reload rather than rebuild.

Their focus now shifts to the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft, where they’re looking to add even more firepower. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, Detroit is showing interest in one of the top safety prospects available.

“Penn State second-team All-Big Ten safety Jaylen Reed (6-0, 209, 4.49 speed) visiting Lions. Recorded 98 tackles, three interceptions last season,” Wilson reported on X.

Reed was a major factor in Penn State’s push to the College Football Playoff semifinals. He delivered eight tackles and a sack in the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State, then followed that up with six more tackles — including one for a loss — in the Orange Bowl showdown with Notre Dame.

It’s worth noting that the Lions already boast a loaded secondary, with All-Pro Kerby Joseph and Pro Bowler Brian Branch anchoring the back end. But after a stinging playoff loss to Jayden Daniels and the Commanders, Detroit is clearly operating with urgency.

They’re leaving nothing to chance — and no position unchecked — as they gear up for another deep postseason run in 2025.
