Bears fans aren’t the only ones fired up about the hiring of Ben Johnson—former Chicago legend Devin Hester is fully backing the move, too.
In a recent appearance on Up and Adams with Kay Adams, Hester praised the Bears for bringing in Johnson, pointing to his offensive success with the Detroit Lions as a blueprint for what Chicago desperately needs. “That’s the type of offense we need,” Hester said, referencing Johnson’s ability to scheme for dual-threat backs and open up the passing game.
Hester went on to explain how Johnson transformed Detroit’s offense into a dangerous, balanced unit filled with playmakers—noting how different things were back when he played. “Back then, it was just Calvin Johnson,” he said. “Now you’ve got two running backs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and others. That’s what Chicago needs.”
With rookie QB Caleb Williams and a retooled offense, Hester believes Johnson’s system could electrify the Bears and change the trajectory of the franchise. Even if he replicates 75% of the success he had in Detroit, Hester says the city would go crazy.
Coming off a 5-12 season, the Bears are banking on Johnson to deliver—and he’s already earning strong endorsements from those who’ve been there.
