The Lions made moves this offseason to strengthen their secondary, including the signing of veteran corner Avonte Maddox. But that depth might come at a cost—namely, Amik Robertson’s roster spot. Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano believes the 26-year-old could be a trade candidate as Detroit looks to finalize its roster before the draft.
Robertson held down a solid role last year, playing in all 17 games and making four starts. But with Maddox now in the mix and DJ Reed added in free agency, Robertson may be the odd man out. He’s entering the final year of his deal, and Detroit might view him as a trade chip—especially if they’re eyeing a move up the draft board.
The Lions have been linked to a potential trade-up for a defensive end, and including a veteran like Robertson in a deal could help get them into range for top pass rushers like Mykel Williams or Shemar Stewart. It’s a passing league, and corners still hold value. Detroit might use that to their advantage in the coming weeks.
