Mets Star Drops a Quick Message for Brett Baty After Big Win
The Mets crushed the Athletics 8-0 on Sunday, and even Brett Baty—who’s been struggling—had a moment to shine. The 25-year-old third baseman hit an RBI triple in the ninth inning, marking his first run batted in for the season.
Pitcher Kodai Senga was on fire, throwing seven scoreless innings with four strikeouts. That brings his record to 2-1 with a super low 1.06 ERA. Baty also helped Senga out by starting both of the Mets’ double plays—snagging grounders at third, tossing them to second, and letting Pete Alonso wrap it up at first.
Senga gave Baty a simple shoutout after the game: “Atta boy.”
Still, Baty’s overall stats are rough this season—he’s hitting just .139. And with Jeff McNeil recovering and almost ready to return, Baty’s spot might be in danger. McNeil, who’s been out with an oblique issue, got a hit during his rehab game on Sunday and is expected to play for Triple-A Syracuse next.
With the Mets currently leading the Phillies by one game in the NL East, they’re heading to Minnesota for a three-game series before returning home to face the Cardinals.
