Trump Warns: “No One’s Getting Off the Hook” with New Tariff Hints
Trump made a bold statement on Sunday, declaring that no one will be exempt from tariffs, despite the recent pause on electronics tariffs. The announcement came after the administration decided to hold off on the 125% tariffs on electronics from China, a move that had US tech companies worried.
Previously, the government had granted exemptions for certain electronics from China, like computers and semiconductors. But now, Trump’s Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick clarified that these exemptions are only temporary, with tariffs on semiconductors expected to hit in a couple of months.
Trump is sticking to his tough stance against China, claiming that no one especially “hostile” nations like China is going to get a free pass. He further added that the changes were just a shift in tariffs, moving goods into a different “Tariff Bucket,” and he’s now raised tariffs to 145% on China’s imports. In return, China slapped a 125% tariff on US goods.
While Trump’s goal was to get companies like Apple to move their manufacturing to the US, it hasn’t quite worked out as planned. For decades, companies have built complex supply chains in China, and switching that up isn’t so easy.
Despite these setbacks, Trump is still pushing for US-made electronic goods, saying that he wants to stop being “held hostage” by countries like China. He also claims that the recent tax cuts and regulation changes will lead the country into a “Golden Age,” with higher-paying jobs and more American-made products. According to Trump, this will finally level the playing field and treat China the way they’ve been treating the US for years.
