Just when it looked like the Lions might stand pat heading into the draft, a familiar name has reentered the conversation — Jalen Ramsey. According to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Miami Dolphins and the All-Pro cornerback have agreed to explore trade options, and Detroit should absolutely be in the mix.
Ramsey’s no stranger to Lions fans — Detroit reportedly made a push for him before he landed in Miami. Now, with the secondary still a weak spot (especially after losing Carlton Davis), the timing couldn’t be better. Even at 30, Ramsey ranked 16th among 222 corners in Pro Football Focus’ 2024 grades. That’s elite territory, and he’d instantly become the top corner on the roster.
Yes, his contract is steep — he’s in the middle of a 3-year, $72 million deal — but with over $42 million in cap space, Detroit could make it happen if the front office wants to go all-in.
Adding a player like Ramsey might be the move that pushes this defense over the top. It would also give Aidan Hutchinson and the pass rush more time to work, knowing there’s lockdown coverage behind them. Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell have said they want to win now — Ramsey could help them do just that.
