Bassist Michael Anthony had a pretty epic 2024, hitting the road with his old Van Halen buddy, Sammy Hagar, for The Best of All Worlds Tour. As the year wrapped up, Anthony sent out a funny and heartwarming holiday video message on social media. In it, he gave fans a sneak peek at something exciting he’s been working on—hinting at a new recording project with Sammy and other musicians he’s previously worked with.
The video shows Mikey sitting in a cozy chair in front of a Christmas tree, with his two dogs chillin’ in his lap. Sporting an elf hat (with fake ears!) and holding a drink, he’s also rocking a hilarious ugly Christmas sweater that features a scene of Santa Claus peeing off the roof of a house.
“Hey, I hope everybody is enjoying my favorite time of the year—you can’t tell, right?” Anthony jokes, starting the clip. “Anyway, I hope everyone’s having a great holiday season. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah—however you celebrate. And I just want to take this minute to thank everybody for all the love and support this past year. Everything from the Mad Anthony Café [merch store] to coming out and seeing The Best of All Worlds Tour this year.”
Then, he added, “I have nothing that I wrote out, nothing planned. This is all just coming straight from the heart. … But anyway, I want to wish everybody Happy Holidays, Happy New Year. Here’s to 2025, and let’s make it a … great year.”
A Tease About New Music
After sending his holiday wishes, Michael dropped a little teaser for the future: “We’ve got a lot of great stuff planned,” he says with a wink. “Maybe some new Chickenfoot music.”
For those who don’t know, Chickenfoot is the supergroup featuring Hagar, Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani, and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith. The band released two albums back in 2009 and 2011.
While we don’t know for sure if this upcoming project is Chickenfoot-related, Hagar has been pretty open about recording new music with his tour band, which also includes Anthony, Satriani, and session drummer Kenny Aronoff. One of the songs in the works is a tribute to Eddie Van Halen, set to be released in early 2025. So yeah, 2025 is shaping up to be a big year for these rock legends.
Sammy Hagar’s Reaction
Of course, Sammy Hagar couldn’t let Michael’s holiday video slide without commenting. He shared a loving note on Instagram: “Who don’t love this man,” he wrote. “Happy everything to you Mike and the dogs are cracking me up. That must be a comfortable spot … [y]ou got right there ha ha … 2025 is going to be the best musical year in a long long time for us, my brother.”
What’s Next for Sammy in 2025
As for Sammy, he’s got some exciting stuff lined up too. He’ll be hitting Las Vegas with Anthony and the Best of All Worlds band for a residency at the Dolby Live venue at the Park MGM hotel and casino, running from April 30 to May 17. Before that, he’s got four other performances planned, including:
- January 17: Scottsdale, AZ (Barrett-Jackson collector car auction)
- February 20: San Antonio, TX (San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo)
- February 21: Thackerville, OK (Lucas Oil Live)
- April 27: Indio, CA (Stagecoach Music Festival)
Looks like 2025 will be another rocking year for Sammy and the gang!
