Cowboys-Steelers Trade Rumor: Explosive WR & RB Pair Could Land in Dallas

Cowboys Could Land Explosive WR-RB Duo in Bold Steelers Trade Proposal

The Dallas Cowboys know they’re not just one player away from being a Super Bowl contender. They’re aware of this, and it’s no surprise that COO Stephen Jones recently put the brakes on any talk about trading up in the draft. But he also hinted that the Cowboys could be open to trading back, which is a strategy they’ve used successfully before.

For example, back in 2021, they dropped from pick 10 to pick 12, still ended up with a star in Micah Parsons. And last year, they moved down from pick 24 to 29, getting future contributors Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe in return. Trading down doesn’t just get you extra picks; it gets you players, too. The Cowboys love having extra draft capital, and this isn’t just wishful thinking. They’ve done it before, and it could definitely happen again.

Right now, the Cowboys have the 12th overall pick, which is worth 1,200 points according to the famous Jimmy Johnson draft value chart. So, what if the Steelers came knocking with the 21st overall pick and wide receiver George Pickens? That deal could make a lot of sense for Dallas.

Pickens is a talented, high-upside wide receiver, but he’s also entering the last year of his rookie contract, so any team that trades for him would need to think about extending his contract soon. The Steelers’ 21st pick is worth 800 points, and Pickens could be valued around 380 points (comparable to the trade Seattle made for DK Metcalf). Add those together, and you get 1,180 points, just 20 shy of equal trade value for Dallas to move down from pick 12.

Here’s the hypothetical deal:
– Steelers receive:The Cowboys’ 12th overall pick to grab quarterback Jaxson Dart.
– Cowboys receive:The Steelers’ 21st overall pick and George Pickens.

For the Cowboys, it would be a no-brainer. They’d immediately fill their void at WR2 with Pickens, a guy with tons of potential. Plus, they’d still have the 21st pick to draft a top offensive lineman, a dynamic running back like Omarion Hampton, or the best defensive player left on the board. It’s a two-for-one: adding a playmaking wide receiver and a valuable draft pick without the pressure of picking the perfect player at No. 12.

If the Cowboys want to reshape their roster with tough, strong players on both the offensive and defensive lines and explosive playmakers at the skill positions, this kind of trade would be a bold but smart move. The best-case scenario could be right in front of them  a 2-for-1 deal that gives them everything they need.
