The NFL Draft is a time of opportunity—but also uncertainty, especially for veterans trying to hold onto starting spots. That might be the case for Marcus Davenport, who could be on the hot seat if the Detroit Lions go edge rusher in the first round later this month.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has Detroit selecting Georgia’s Mykel Williams with pick No. 28, which would directly impact Davenport’s future in the starting rotation. Injuries have limited him to just six games over the past two seasons, and if the Lions add a young, explosive pass rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson, it could spell trouble for Davenport’s role.
Williams would bring proven production and upside to the Lions’ defense, and his presence could trigger a training camp battle that determines who lines up across from Hutch this fall.
All eyes on April 24—Davenport’s job might just be on the line.
