Mavs Know What’s Next — and Other GMs Are Hoping Nico Harrison Doesn’t Leave

Mavs GM Nico Harrison Under Fire as Rival Teams Hope He Stays

Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison is catching heat all around the league and not in a good way. Ever since he sent superstar Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers, rival general managers have been loving it. In fact, one anonymous NBA exec admitted they’re hoping the Mavs hang onto Harrison as long as possible.

“It’s always good to have a desperate GM out there,” the exec said, making it clear teams around the league see Harrison as an easy mark when it comes to trades.

Right now, it feels like everybody wants a piece of Harrison because of how badly things have gone for Dallas. The Mavs’ ownership   led by Miriam Adelson and Patrick Dumont   reportedly signed off on the Dončić deal, but Harrison’s the face of the front office, and fans have been furious. The American Airlines Center crowd spent the rest of the season chanting “Fire Nico” after the trade.

Most people can’t believe the Mavs willingly handed a player like Luka to the Lakers  the NBA’s version of the Yankees or Cowboys. If you’re not a fan, you probably hate them. And yet, here we are.

Even two months later, fans and analysts are still baffled by the trade. Sure, ownership deserves a chunk of the blame, but unlike the Cowboys’ GM (who owns the team), the Mavs can actually make a change. And if they want to win back the fan base and stop being the punchline of the league, it might be time to move on from Nico Harrison.
