The New York Giants aren’t ruling out using Travis Hunter as a two-way player — both on offense and defense — if they take him with the No. 3 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Giants GM Joe Schoen said in a press conference Wednesday that the team wouldn’t be scared to let Hunter play both sides of the ball. And honestly, that’s exactly what Hunter wants. He told CBS Sports he’d rather quit football than be limited to just one role.

Hunter’s college resume is wild: Heisman Trophy winner, Bednarik Award winner, AP Player of the Year — and his stats back it all up. The guy caught 96 passes for over 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns, and on defense he had 35 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and 4 interceptions. So yeah, scouts are calling him the best wide receiver and best corner in the draft.

That said, Schoen pointed out that playing both ways in the NFL is a different beast compared to college — not just physically, but mentally. There’s a lot more playbook complexity and weekly matchups to handle.

Still, Schoen admits he wouldn’t bet against Hunter. “He’s that type of athlete,” he said, praising the kid’s drive and insane workload.

Now, it’s not guaranteed the Giants will pick Hunter. They’ve got QBs Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Tommy DeVito for now, but they’re eyeing a long-term solution — maybe even Hunter’s teammate Shedeur Sanders. And they’re also interested in top pass-rusher Abdul Carter from Penn State.

For now, the Giants are still wrapping up meetings with prospects and doing Zoom interviews, but Schoen said they feel good about where they’re at heading into draft week.
