The Detroit Lions are heading into the 2025 NFL Draft in a rare position of strength. After finishing as the NFC’s top team in the regular season, Detroit has few holes to fill and plenty of flexibility at pick No. 28.
General manager Brad Holmes spoke this week about the team’s draft approach, reiterating that his strategy remains focused on selecting the best player available—but he also didn’t rule out the possibility of trading down. According to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, Holmes said a move down the board could happen if the situation is right.
With no glaring roster needs, the Lions are in a position to be patient. Every draft pick is more of a luxury than a necessity, giving them room to explore various strategies—whether it’s staying put, trading down, or even packaging picks to move up.
While the departures of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn have raised concerns, the core of the team remains intact. If Detroit nails this draft, they’ll stay in the NFC’s upper tier for the foreseeable future.
