Cowboys Take a Chance on Intriguing Free Agent Coming Off Injured Year

Cowboys Sign Hakeem Adeniji After Missing 2024 Season

The Dallas Cowboys made an interesting move in free agency, signing offensive lineman Hakeem Adeniji. The 26-year-old missed the entire 2024 season with a knee injury while he was with the Cleveland Browns. Now healthy, he’s getting a shot to compete in Dallas.

Adeniji has bounced around the league since entering the NFL as a sixth-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2020. He’s also spent time with the Minnesota Vikings, appearing in a total of 39 games so far in his career  including playing in Super Bowl 56.

With the Cowboys, he’ll be competing for the right guard spot that opened up after veteran Zack Martin left. Adeniji brings versatility, with experience at both guard and tackle, and will be battling guys like T.J. Bass, Brock Hoffman, and Charles Jones for a roster spot and potentially a starting role.

The Cowboys have added three new linemen this offseason, and with the draft coming up soon, it’s still possible they’ll look to pick up more help up front. Dallas struggled with pass protection and the run game last season, ranking 19th in sacks allowed and 27th in rushing yards, so adding more depth to the offensive line makes sense.

The Cowboys are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 7-10 season and missed playoff run in 2024 as they head into a new era under head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
