It’s been a few years since Matthew Stafford left Detroit, but Lions fans still keep an eye on their former quarterback — and now, he might have a successor waiting in the wings. With the 2025 NFL Draft fast approaching, rumors are heating up that the Los Angeles Rams could be eyeing a quarterback, and it’s not one of the big names you’ve been hearing about nonstop.
According to ESPN’s Peter Schrager, Alabama QB Jalen Milroe could sneak into the end of the first round. Schrager said on The Pat McAfee Show that Milroe might land with a team that already has a starter in place, setting him up to take over in a few years — and the Rams fit that profile perfectly.
Milroe accepted an invite to the NFL Draft, which usually means there’s some real first-round interest. NFL teams generally don’t encourage players to attend unless they’re pretty confident someone’s going to call their name early. That’s a big signal.
Milroe is known as an explosive athlete with a cannon for an arm. He’s a threat outside the pocket and fearless when delivering passes under pressure. That said, scouts have noted he still needs work with timing, accuracy, and decision-making inside the pocket. If the Rams take him, it’ll likely be with a plan to sit and develop him behind Stafford.
The Rams have a history of taking chances on players others overlook, and Milroe could be their next project — one with real upside. Stafford is still getting it done for now, but the future might already be on their radar.
