Francisco Lindor came through big time for the Mets on Friday, blasting a solo home run in the ninth inning to give New York a 5-4 win over the Cardinals at Citi Field. It was a walk-off moment, and Lindor was loving it.
“It felt fantastic,” he said. “I knew we were going to win.”
That homer was his third career walk-off, but it was his first since joining the Mets. He’s hitting .263 this season with two home runs, and it looks like he’s finding his groove.
The Mets are now 13-7 on the year, with six wins in their last 10 games. Lindor has been a key part of the team’s offensive success, joining big bats like Juan Soto and Pete Alonso in carrying the lineup.
Aside from baseball, Lindor also just welcomed a new baby, so it’s been a big few weeks for him. After Friday’s game, his teammates gave him a proper Gatorade shower to celebrate the win.
“It felt like a fantastic team win,” Lindor said. “When you help the team after everyone else contributes, it feels really good.”
Even though he had just one hit in the game, it was the one that mattered most. The Mets were trailing earlier but clawed their way back for the victory.
The chemistry in the clubhouse seems strong, especially considering all the new faces on the team this season. They’ve been dominant at home too, with only one loss at Citi Field heading into Saturday’s matchup.
After getting knocked out of the NLCS last year by the Dodgers, the Mets are pushing hard to make a serious World Series run. With the big investment they made in Juan Soto, every win counts.
The Mets and Cardinals face off again Saturday, and fans are hoping Lindor has more fireworks in store.
