Lions Exec Heats Up Rivalry, Doubts Packers Can Top Detroit’s Draft

Detroit Lions president Rod Wood isn’t holding back when it comes to the team’s NFC North rivals.

While speaking at the Detroit Economic Club’s annual NFL Draft luncheon, Wood took a playful—but pointed—shot at the Green Bay Packers as he discussed the Lions’ push to host another NFL Draft in the future.

“Trying to get the NFL to consider bringing it back [to Detroit] because I don’t think they’ll ever top it,” Wood said, via the Detroit Free Press. “There’s no way Green Bay will come close. They’ll finish second or, as I said earlier, they’ll finish third like they did last year [in the NFC North].”

It was a tongue-in-cheek comment, but one that’s sure to rile up Packers fans—and it adds more fuel to a rivalry that’s grown intense in recent years as Detroit has risen to the top of the division.

With the 2025 NFL Draft set for Green Bay, all eyes will be on Titletown to see if they can match the buzz and success Detroit delivered in 2024. But if you ask Rod Wood, the answer is already a firm no.
