Stafford Anticipates Another Showdown with Former Team in December Clash

Former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is gearing up for another high-stakes matchup with his old squad — and he’s embracing the challenge.

Speaking on NFL Network during the 2025 schedule release, Stafford reflected on the rising Lions and what it means to face them again this season. “That’ll be fun,” he said. “We’ve had some great matchups. Dan Campbell and Jared Goff have done an incredible job turning that team around.”

Stafford knows the Lions are no joke. Detroit knocked the Rams out of the playoffs in 2023 and beat them again to open the 2024 season — both times at Ford Field. This time around, it’s the Rams who get home-field advantage, with the Week 15 showdown set for SoFi Stadium.

“They’re playing really good football,” Stafford added. “Every season is a new season when you step out there and go play. I’m sure it’ll be another good battle.”

Stafford and Goff remain connected through one of the NFL’s biggest quarterback trades of the past decade. While Stafford went on to win a Super Bowl in his first year with the Rams, Goff has since helped bring Detroit back to contender status.

Circle Week 15 on your calendar — the battle of the traded QBs is back.
