Hold the Hype: Preseason Predictions Got Lions Fans Nervous

NFL Schedule’s Out—And the Lions’ Projections? Kinda Bleak.

Now that the 2025 NFL schedule has dropped, everyone’s jumping in with predictions—and for the Detroit Lions, the vibes aren’t as high as last year.

Last season, the Lions were on fire with a 15-2 record. But Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton isn’t betting on a repeat. He’s got Detroit finishing 9-8 this year. Ouch.

Why the drop? Moton says the Lions lost two key puzzle pieces: offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn—both off to head coaching gigs. Johnson ran one of the top-scoring offenses in the league the last three years, and Glenn’s defense was no joke either—7th-fewest points allowed and top 10 in takeaways.

Moton points to other examples, too—like how the Eagles went from 14-3 to 11-6 after their own coordinator shakeup. Add in the Lions’ brutal road schedule and a stacked NFC North, and yeah, he’s expecting a backslide.

And he’s not the only one.

Fox Sports also shared their predictions. While they’re a bit more optimistic, they’re still expecting some dip. Carmen Vitali gives the Lions an 11-6 finish. He still sees them as the NFC North favorites and says getting Aidan Hutchinson back healthy will be huge, but losing both coordinators is tough to ignore.

The good news? These are just predictions. The Lions have shocked people before—and if they can stay locked in, they might do it again.

Let’s just hope the experts eat their words.
