Detroit Pride Runs Deep — and Maybe Permanent
With the 2025 NFL season around the corner, Detroit Lions fans have a lot to be hopeful about — and apparently, so does D.J. Reed’s tattoo artist.
The veteran cornerback, who joined the Lions this offseason, stirred up buzz with a bold (and very Detroit) promise. Posting on social media, Reed said, “If we win the SB I might get the 313 tatted on me dawg.” For the uninitiated, 313 is Detroit’s iconic area code — a symbol of Motor City pride. And for a guy who’s only just signed with the team, that kind of devotion? Lions fans are already loving it.
High Hopes in the Motor City
Reed’s arrival comes at a critical moment for Detroit. After a gut-punch of a 2024 season that saw over 20 players hit the injured reserve list, the Lions are looking to bounce back in a big way. With head coach Dan Campbell still at the helm and a strong core returning, Detroit is poised to make a serious Super Bowl run — a sentence that, until recently, was more dream than reality.
Now? It’s on the table. And Reed’s tattoo talk might just be the perfect symbol of the gritty swagger the Lions are leaning into.
A Physical Corner with the Right Mindset
Signed on a 3-year, $18 million deal, the 28-year-old Reed brings more than ink-worthy enthusiasm. He’s got game — and the mentality to match.
“I’m a willing tackler as well as corner, which you know most corners don’t want to tackle,” Reed shared at his first media session in Detroit. “Most corners want to cover. I like to throw myself out there when I have to, and I also want to cover as well.”
That mindset fits perfectly with the Lions’ new-look defense under Kelvin Sheppard, and fans should expect Reed to mesh quickly with standouts Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph — one of the most promising safety duos in the league.
Tattoo Fever?
Should the Lions actually bring home the Lombardi, Reed may not be the only one getting inked. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if half the fanbase joined him at the tattoo parlor. For a city that’s never seen its team win a Super Bowl, the potential celebration would be seismic.
But for now, the season awaits — and Reed’s “313” promise is one of many reasons to believe this year could finally be Detroit’s time.
