Jared Goff’s $265M Deal Is Straight Fire—Here’s Why He’s Now Untouchable!

When a QB reaches franchise-level status in 2025, you know the paycheck’s gonna be huge. Good QBs are like gold right now, so it’s no shock the 49ers just handed Brock Purdy a massive 5-year, $265 million deal on May 16. Remember, this is the same dude who was “Mr. Irrelevant” in the draft, but the 49ers weren’t about to let him go.

So, what does this mean for Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff? When Goff signed his 4-year, $212 million extension last year, it made him the highest-paid player in Lions history and the sixth-highest paid QB in the NFL by yearly salary. Now, with Purdy’s new deal, Goff and Purdy are actually tied for the 7th highest QB salary at $53 million a year.

Ahead of them are big names like Dak Prescott ($60M), Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Jordan Love, Trevor Lawrence (all $55M), and Tua Tagovailoa just slightly above Goff and Purdy at $53.1M. Weird to see Tua there, but hey, stranger things happen.

Purdy was about to finish his rookie deal in 2025 but has already proven he can ball—leading the 49ers to two playoff runs in three years, including a Super Bowl trip. Lions fans definitely remember how Purdy and the Niners crushed Detroit in that epic comeback.

Since stepping in back in 2022, Purdy’s thrown for over 9,500 yards with 64 TDs and a 67.5% completion rate, plus he finished 4th in MVP voting last year. Not bad for a guy who was a total draft afterthought.

Niners Nation’s Patrick Holloway says Purdy’s deal is fair and smart: “He could’ve pushed for Dak or Trevor money, but he didn’t. Is he better than them? His resume says yes.” Holloway adds that if the 49ers stay healthy and get some better weapons and protection, Purdy could keep running their offense efficiently. That extra cash saved could go to the O-line or keeping receivers happy.

One fan chimed in about Goff too, saying, “This contract looks fair considering Goff’s rough 2024 and some physical limits. It’s about what Goff deserves. It’s a bargain if Purdy keeps improving. Now if only they’d give Goff a decent offensive line…”
