The Yankees are busy making moves to gear up for the 2025 season, especially after losing Juan Soto to the Mets. But before they can add some much-needed hitters to their lineup, they’ve got another problem to solve: Marcus Stroman.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees are trying to trade Stroman, but it’s not exactly an easy sell. The guy’s set to make $18.3 million in 2025, with another $18.3 million on the table in 2026 if he pitches 140 innings this season. To make things easier, the Yankees are even willing to pay down part of his salary to sweeten the deal.
What’s the plan after Stroman? The Yankees reportedly want another infielder, ideally someone to beef up third base. But don’t expect them to go all-in on big names like Alex Bregman or Nolan Arenado—they’re not making a splash there. There’s also chatter about Luis Arraez being a target, but according to Heyman, there’s not much happening on that front right now. Either way, it’s looking unlikely Stroman will stick around in pinstripes.
Meanwhile, the Yankees’ rotation is still stacked despite losing Nestor Cortes in the trade that brought in Devin Williams and the possible departure of Stroman. Gerrit Cole remains the ace, backed by rising star Luis Gil, along with Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt. And let’s not forget their new $218 million man, Max Fried, who’s locked in for the next eight years.
The Yankees are clearly gearing up for a serious World Series push in 2025, but there’s still some roster shuffling to be done. Stay tuned.
