Oklahoma Targets Bedlam Rival for Next Big Steal

Brent Venables might be adding another former Oklahoma State player to the Sooners roster.

Jeff Roberson, a linebacker from OSU, just entered the transfer portal and is already visiting Oklahoma, with many predicting he’ll make the switch. The timing is a bit surprising since the transfer portal for OSU closed in December, but graduate transfers like Roberson can join at any time.

Roberson didn’t do much in his earlier years at OSU, but he stepped up this past season due to injuries, finishing third on the team with 58 tackles, plus three sacks, seven quarterback hurries, and an interception.

Before 2024, Roberson was mainly a backup, often seen on special teams. He originally joined OSU in 2020 as a three-star recruit from Choctaw, Oklahoma, but didn’t have an offer from OU back then. If he chooses to transfer to the Sooners, he would be the second player from OSU to make the move this year, following Kendal Daniels, another linebacker and safety who will also be joining OU after three seasons at OSU.

This isn’t the first time Brent Venables has taken talent from OSU. In 2022, defensive end Trace Ford made the jump across Bedlam lines, setting a trend. OSU has done the same, picking up players from OU, like receiver Gavin Freeman and running back Kalib Hicks.

With the two teams no longer meeting every season, these kinds of transfers are likely to happen more often.
