The College Football Playoff is down to two teams: No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 8 Ohio State. Both teams are hoping to make history, with Notre Dame looking for its first national title in decades and Ohio State chasing its second CFP championship.
Ohio State earned its spot in the final after a dramatic 28-14 win over Texas in the Cotton Bowl. The game had a wild finish when defensive end Jack Sawyer returned a fumble 83 yards for a touchdown, setting a record for the longest fumble return in CFP history.
Notre Dame made it to the national championship game after pulling off a thrilling 27-24 win over Penn State in the Orange Bowl. They rallied late with a game-tying 54-yard touchdown, a key interception, and a go-ahead field goal in the final seconds.
This is Notre Dame’s third CFP appearance, but they’ve never won it all. Ohio State has already won the CFP once in 2014 and is looking for a second title after their loss to Alabama in 2021.
The national championship game will take place on January 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Atlanta, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home to the Atlanta Falcons. It’ll be broadcast on ESPN and available to stream online.
