Frank Ragnow, the heart of the Detroit Lions’ offensive line, is officially retiring from the NFL. At just 29, Ragnow made the tough call to step away from the game due to ongoing health issues.
Drafted 20th overall back in 2018, Ragnow quickly proved he was the real deal. In seven seasons, he racked up over 5,500 snaps and gave up just six sacks — insanely solid for a center. He also earned four Pro Bowl nods along the way and played a huge role in the Lions’ rise in recent years.
Injuries have been piling up, though, and Ragnow made it clear that it was time to put his health and family first. He shared the news in an emotional post on Instagram, and support from fans and teammates poured in immediately.
With Ragnow gone, Detroit’s O-line is going to look different next season. Rookie center Tate Ratledge has been taking reps with the first team, but replacing Ragnow’s leadership and presence won’t be easy.
As the Lions head into 2025, they’ll need to regroup and reshape their offensive identity without their longtime anchor. Ragnow’s legacy, however, is secure — tough, dependable, and all heart. A true Lion through and through.
