Could the Giants Trade Evan Neal After Moving Him to Guard?
The Giants are switching things up with Evan Neal.
After a rough start to his career, they’re moving him from right tackle to guard, hoping the change can spark something. So far, Neal’s been getting some reps at left guard during OTAs, but don’t expect him to just slide into a starting role—he’s not even close right now.
At practice, he’s been running with the second team at left guard. Over at right guard, veteran Greg Van Roten is locked in after starting all 17 games last season.
Even at left guard, Neal would have to beat out Jon Runyan Jr., and that won’t be easy either. If Neal doesn’t step it up in training camp, he could find himself on the outside looking in.
So what happens if things don’t work out? A trade might be on the table.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that teams were already asking about Neal before last year’s trade deadline, but the Giants didn’t bite. Despite his struggles, some teams might still be interested—after all, he was the No. 7 overall pick back in 2022.
If the Giants decide they’re done trying to develop him, they could look to move him instead of cutting him outright. They probably wouldn’t get much in return, but even a small return is better than nothing if they’re planning to release him anyway.
