**Lions Need a New Center – Should They Trade for One?**
The Detroit Lions knew it might be coming, but Frank Ragnow officially hanging up his cleats still stings. The four-time Pro Bowler retired earlier this week, leaving a big hole right in the middle of Detroit’s offensive line.
Sure, they grabbed Georgia’s Tate Ratledge in the second round of the draft, and he’s been getting some snaps at center. But let’s be real — the guy’s never played an NFL down. For a team with serious Super Bowl dreams, that’s a pretty big gamble.
That’s why people are starting to think Detroit should look outside the team for help. One name that’s come up? Beaux Limmer from the Rams. NFL.com’s Gennaro Filice threw the idea out there, and it’s not a bad one.
Limmer was a sixth-round pick in 2024 but ended up starting 14 games for L.A. last season — including both of their playoff games. He held up well overall, especially in the run game, though he did have some rough moments in pass protection, especially against top-tier talent like Jalen Carter. That led the Rams to bring back veteran center Coleman Shelton, pushing Limmer down the depth chart.
So now Limmer might be available — and he wouldn’t cost much, which is always a plus. He’s young, has starting experience, and could step in as a short-term fix or even a longer-term option if he keeps developing. Detroit already added Trystan Colon to the mix, but bringing in Limmer would add another solid piece to the puzzle.
And here’s the kicker: Lions GM Brad Holmes has a solid relationship with Rams GM Les Snead from their time together in L.A. If there’s a deal to be made, those two are the guys who could pull it off.
Bottom line — if the Lions want to keep their O-line dominant, they might need to make a move. Ragnow’s shoes are huge to fill, but Limmer could be a smart, low-risk option.
