Amon-Ra St. Brown Predicts Breakout Season for Sam LaPorta

Detroit Lions star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown is feeling good about what he’s seeing from tight end Sam LaPorta — and he’s not afraid to say it.

Speaking after the Lions wrapped up OTA practices, St. Brown called out LaPorta as someone who’s really standing out this offseason. “A guy that I’m excited for is Sam LaPorta,” he said. “Not taking anything away from what he did last year — he’s a baller — but I can tell this year, he’s making plays out there every day. He’s gonna have a big year.”

LaPorta had a strong rookie season but didn’t quite blow up in Year 2 the way some expected. Still, Detroit’s offense kept humming last season, and with so many weapons on the field, it’s not easy for anyone to dominate the stat sheet week after week.

LaPorta himself has already addressed that “down year” label, noting that Detroit still scored at near-record levels in 2024. Now, heading into his third season, it sounds like the former second-round pick is making serious noise in workouts.

St. Brown also didn’t shy away from the big picture. Asked about team goals, he made it plain and simple: “We want to win the Super Bowl. That’s it.”

LaPorta turning into a more dangerous option only helps that mission. And with the talent stacked on both sides of the ball, the Lions aren’t just dreaming big — they’re starting to expect it.
