“Jared Goff’s Got Some Explaining to Do — Lions Beat Writer Turns Up the Pressure”

Jared Goff’s Feeling the Heat as Lions Eye 2025 Super Bowl Push

Jared Goff may have had a career year in 2024, but the honeymoon is over — and the pressure’s officially on. With the Lions squarely in a Super Bowl window, the spotlight is now burning hotter than ever on Detroit’s QB1.

Despite what GM Brad Holmes might say, the Lions are built to make a title run. But after getting bounced from the playoffs by the Washington Commanders — in a game where Goff coughed up four turnovers — people are starting to ask the tough question: Can this team actually win it all with Goff under center?

Bleacher Report and CBS Sports didn’t pull punches. Both pointed to Goff as one of the quarterbacks facing the most pressure heading into the 2025 season. Yeah, he threw 37 touchdowns last year and posted a personal best QBR — but when it mattered most, it fell apart.

Even Lions beat writer Eric Woodyard didn’t let him off the hook. He picked Goff as the QB with the most to prove in the entire NFC North. Sure, it’s easy to point to rookies like Caleb Williams or J.J. McCarthy — but Goff’s the one who’s supposed to already have it all figured out.

Peter Schrager from ESPN took it a step further, saying Goff might be the most important player in the entire NFC this year. Why? Because the safety net is gone. His longtime center Frank Ragnow is out. His offensive line is banged up. Six coaches from the previous staff — including OC Ben Johnson — are gone. So it’s sink or swim.

And guess what? Goff just got paid. So now it’s time to earn it.

If he leads this team back to the playoffs and proves he can deliver in crunch time, the critics will back off. But if 2025 goes sideways? Don’t be surprised if the whispers about Detroit needing a new QB start turning into shouts.
