Major College Football Conference Faces Warning from Paul Finebaum

Paul Finebaum is worried about the SEC after a surprising year in college football. Ohio State’s win over Texas in the College Football Playoff semifinals marks the second straight year the SEC won’t be playing for a national title, which hasn’t happened since 2004-05. For the first time since 2019, the SEC didn’t have a winning record against the Big Ten either. In fact, the Big Ten ended with a 6-4 record against the SEC this season.

During an appearance on “The Matt Barrie Show,” Finebaum didn’t hold back. He mentioned that the SEC’s rough year, especially with the 12-team playoff, is concerning for the conference. He said it’s a big deal that teams from Indiana and Ohio are now playing for the national championship in Atlanta, while the SEC only had three teams make the 12-team playoff—Georgia, Tennessee, and Texas—and none made it far.

Finebaum said there’s no way to spin this year for the SEC, especially when you look at how the season started with four SEC teams in the top 10. It’s a tough pill to swallow for the southern part of the country.
