Detroit Lions Rookie Ahmed Hassanein Puts NFL on Notice With Powerful Statement

Detroit Lions rookie defensive end Ahmed Hassanein is already making waves this offseason — not just on the field, but online too.

The sixth-round draft pick recently shared a video of one of his workouts on social media, and it didn’t take long for fans and teammates to take notice. Set to the tune of Cody Johnson’s “Doubt Me Now,” the post showcased Hassanein bench-pressing what looked to be a staggering 405 pounds — a clear message to anyone questioning whether he can hang in the NFL.

It wasn’t just the physical feat that made a statement. The lyrics from the song echoed Hassanein’s mindset as he gears up for his rookie campaign. A line from the track reads:
“Keep buildin’ that chip up on my shoulder. Keep feedin’ that monkey on my back… Lovin’ all you haters. Beggin’ you to doubt me now.”
It’s clear Hassanein is using doubt as fuel — something that’s not uncommon for players drafted late.

As a sixth-round pick, the former Boise State standout knows the odds aren’t always in his favor. Climbing the depth chart will require grit, consistency, and growth — and he’s embracing the challenge.

So far, he’s making the most of every opportunity. During rookie minicamp and organized team activities, Hassanein impressed coaches with his performance and work ethic. Detroit’s general manager even recently shared confidence in the team’s defensive ends on a podcast, noting the group’s potential heading into the season.

With Aidan Hutchinson leading the charge and Marcus Davenport hoping to stay healthy, Hassanein will have to carve out his role in a competitive room. But he’s staying focused on growth.

“I just can’t wait to unlock that next level with my mental game,” Hassanein told Lions OnSI. “That’s the only thing that I need… if I am consistent at what I do, and I rep what I do and I understand what I’m doing, then I’m gonna play fast and make plays.”

For now, Hassanein’s message is loud and clear: doubt him if you want — but he’s coming.
