“Why Can’t We Cook Like Them?” McBride Wants That Kelce-Level Chemistry

Trey McBride Wants That Mahomes-Kelce Magic With Kyler Murray

Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride isn’t just trying to be good — he’s aiming to be legendary. And he’s got one duo on his mind as a blueprint: Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes.

During Tight End University (a real thing where star TEs get together to share tips and vibes), McBride told ESPN that Kelce dropped some knowledge about how crucial it is to stay tight with your quarterback — on and off the field. That hit home for McBride.

“Him and Mahomes have a nice connection, and I was like, ‘Why can’t Kyler and I have that same thing?’”

He’s not just dreaming — he’s putting in the work to make it happen. McBride wants to be Kyler Murray’s go-to guy — the safety net, the clutch option, the “when in doubt, throw it to me” target. And it’s working. Since Kyler returned from his ACL tear, the McBride-Murray connection has only grown stronger. First game back? Eight catches for 131 yards.

Now in his fourth season, McBride’s already made a name for himself:
✔️ First Pro Bowl
✔️ First 1,000-yard season
✔️ \$76 million extension (yeah, that kind of name)
He was briefly the highest-paid tight end in the league — until George Kittle one-upped him a few weeks later. Still, not bad company.

The numbers don’t lie: McBride’s racked up 192 catches and nearly 2,000 yards over the past two seasons. The only place he hasn’t made huge noise? The end zone — just six TDs in 49 games. But even that seems like it’s about to change.

And if you ask him, it’s all about what Kyler brings to the table.

“The plays are never over with that guy,” McBride said. “He makes magic happen. As long as he’s out there, we’ve got a shot.”

Trey’s betting big on this season being the breakout — not just for him, but for a Cardinals team that hasn’t sniffed the playoffs since 2021. He’s got his eyes on what Kelce and Mahomes built. Now he wants to make his own mark — with Kyler right there beside him.
