No Excuses’: Hawkins Urges Team to Do Better After Loss

Kansas State basketball player Coleman Hawkins didn’t hold back after the Wildcats fell 79-66 to Oklahoma State on Tuesday night in Stillwater. Clearly frustrated, Hawkins called out his team, saying they need to step up and take things more seriously if they want to salvage the season.

“I feel like everyone needs to do more—whether it’s on or off the court,” Hawkins said. “Even small things, like how we warm up or whether we’re walking or running back to the locker room, matter. We need to treat basketball with more discipline.”

Hawkins pointed to their sluggish start in the game, which he felt stemmed from a lack of energy during pregame preparations. “We didn’t warm up well enough today. We came out flat. At times, we don’t take the little details seriously, and that’s something we need to fix.”

For Hawkins, it’s about discipline and paying attention to the little things that can make a big difference. Whether his words will spark change remains to be seen.
