With the slow part of the NFL offseason winding down, training camp is just around the corner—and one familiar face from Detroit is already turning heads in his new home.
Former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who took over as the New York Jets’ head coach this offseason, is wasting no time setting the tone. For Glenn, it’s a homecoming of sorts: the 52-year-old was drafted by the Jets in the first round back in 1994 and spent eight seasons there as a player. Now, he’s aiming to reshape the team’s culture from the top down.
Jets running back Breece Hall is already feeling the difference. Speaking in an interview on the team’s website, Hall pushed back on any notion that the Jets are entering a rebuild.
> “I think people think the new coaching staff and new GM means a rebuild, but we have a lot of really good players on the roster, so we’re trying to win now,” Hall said. “I think a lot of people from the outside are going to take that for granted and not realize that we actually have a team.”
Hall’s optimism isn’t misplaced. Despite a disappointing 5-12 record in 2024, the Jets boast a roster with plenty of talent, including stars like Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Will McDonald, and Quinnen Williams. Glenn isn’t about to waste time—he’s bringing the same aggressive, never-quit mentality he helped instill under Dan Campbell in Detroit.
One of Glenn’s priorities is building a competitive edge at the line of scrimmage, something he knows is essential to turning things around. The Jets’ offensive line, featuring Olu Fashanu, John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Alijah Vera-Tucker, and Armand Membou, has the potential to be among the league’s best. If that unit comes together, it could open up big opportunities for Hall and the offense.
Glenn’s message is already resonating in the locker room, and the Jets appear ready to surprise some people in 2025.
