Report: Ben Johnson to the Raiders Now Seen as a Done Deal

In less than a week, Ben Johnson, the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator, has seen his prospects for the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach position shift significantly. Initially considered a long shot, it now appears that Johnson may be the Raiders’ top choice, and they may be doing whatever it takes to bring him on board.

Pro Football Post reports that Johnson impressed the Raiders not only with his football knowledge but also with his detailed vision for how he would build his coaching staff. This level of preparedness seems to set him apart from other candidates. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed that there’s widespread belief in NFL circles that Johnson is now the leading candidate for the position. He also pointed out that while the Raiders haven’t officially hired anyone yet, they are likely heading in Johnson’s direction.

While the Raiders have also interviewed Lions’ defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, it appears the team is primarily focused on Johnson, with reports indicating they are willing to wait for the end of the Lions’ season before making the hire official. However, nothing is set in stone until Johnson is formally introduced as the Raiders’ new head coach. But with the mounting evidence, it seems increasingly likely that Johnson may soon be coaching his final games with the Lions.
